Research on Environmental policies in the United States of America

For thіs аssignmеnt, уou will research and write an APA research paper about environmental policies, including the following:

•Choose 1 U.S. environmental law. State the name of the law and the date the law was passed.

•Summarize the major provisions of the law that уou chose.

•Describe the economic impact of the law. Provide specific economic data from credible references.

•Has the law improved the environment or situation? Provide specific data from credible references.

•Do you think that sound science has proven that global warming is a credible threat or not?

•Should the United States adopt additional policies or laws to curb greenhouse gas emissions?

◦What should these policies or laws regulate or encourage?

◦Use specific facts to defend your position.

The clean water Act

The environmental policies in United States involve governmental benignity taking place at the state, the federal or even at the local level to protect the environment and preserve the natural resources. The protect act is well balanced with other policies in the states like the economic growth, affordable energy and the rights of business concerns in the society. Moreover, the rules and regulations by environment vary depending on the issue involved like for example the environmental policies and energy policy are mainly related. The United States environmental law that will be discussed in the papers is the clean water act (CWA) passed in the year 1972 is federal legislation that exists to fight or rather control all manners of water pollution (Copeland, 2011).

The central provision of the clean water act is to ensure both the biological, physical and more so the chemical composition of the all the waters in the states are safe for use domestically through elimination and avoiding all the possible kinds of the pollution sources. Moreover, it is responsible for the provision of greater assistance to the state owned water treatment works with the vision of maintaining the quality of water for public use especially the ones that are obtained from the rivers and lakes which need adequate treatment before consumption (Copeland, 2011).

The economic impact of the clean water act has been felt in the entire United States of America in particular by the environmental clean water reservists in the regions. Through the act, the state and other financial budget departments allocate massive amounts of funds to make the water clean, especially at the source point to make sure that the Americans get clean water to drink for other domestic use for the sake of health (Copeland, 2011). Moreover, it is estimated that around 3% – 4% of the federal and state budgets is allocated yearly to the clean water Acts and perhaps other subsidiary Acts associated with the duty of making sure that there is clean water in the states.

Since the enactment of the clean water Act in the society, there have been environmental improvements that can be accounted for by even the society and the individuals. Through the clean water Act, there has been a drastic improvement in the quality of water and more on the reduction of the industrial pollution through impulsive laws made to ensure that they treat all their effluents and discharge them in the right place. Moreover, there has been a lot of improvement in the sewage treatment from the homestead and also discharge, and this has led to a compassionate society. Ideally, the reservation has resulted in around 60% of the waters in the US under the clean water act fit for use and consumption (Copeland, 2011). For example, through the implementation of the Act, there has been redemption of the primary sources like Lake Erie and others which were turned to be dumping sites for people hence making the water unclean for use. However, today it is a surprise that the dumping was stopped and the lake is now used as one of the water sources in the United States, and this has improved the quantity and the quality of water supply. This medium has also saved the aquatic life like the fish in the lake which has now increased and hence making the late to be a good fishing ground. There has been an improvement in the water quality observed.

Global warming is an environmental threat that has been proved and tested by science. The increased emission of the carbon and other gases from various sources of energy has led to the warming which has been said to affect the ozone layer which protects the people from the direct rays of the sun. The cases of the threat have been reported in some nations with the spread of the desert lands. However, the environmental challenges are trying to keep down the carbon emission by using clean energy (Copeland, 2011). The climate change has been witnessed in many areas due to the deforestation which has increased the level of carbon in the environment. These have been succeeded by the extreme colds and the unseasonal rainfalls in most places.

The United States should adopt additional policies for the reduction of the greenhouse gases in the environment which has been done by the environment protection agency EPA (one of the governing charters for environmental programs). The policy should include the building of the 21st-century clean energy infrastructure and the automobiles such as the use of the electric power vehicles rather than using the biofuels which have environmental effects. The adoption of a new act will also assist the existing Acts which have tried to reduce the level of the greenhouse gases in the society to have a new strength and perhaps skills to control the global warming which is perceived to be a threat to the society today. The policy should encourage the use of clean energy in the transport system (Copeland, 2011).
