There has been research to ascertain the connection between the media violence and the violent behaviors among the individuals especially the youths. Media violence is described as the aspect of showing physical actions that hurt or kills. These occur through music videos, video games, Television shows, and other entertainment sites. Therefore, due to the correlation of the youths who watch the violent movies with their violent behavior, it is vivid that violent media cause violent behaviors in people especially the one who views the sites. It is believed that the violent media staffs have the capability of drawing thoughts that can lead to one to capture and understand that aggressive behavior has some benefits. The video can destroy and alter an individual brain especially a child’s brain (Feldman, 2010). Moreover, the shift in characters from good to someone becoming more aggressive and violent are the negative attributes of the violent media. Therefore, the paper describes the role of violent media in violent behavior in the society.
The media in the present society is very influential on children especially the youths. There are very many things that the youths at a very young age are learning, for example, violence. Many children easily learn violent behaviors, and they become violent and aggressive since they are exposed to such mature contents at an early age. Most of the parents are not aware of what their children are watching and all of a sudden they end up being brought up by the media stuff. Some television shows have a lot of violence such as kid’s fighting one another, children yelling and shouting at their parents, and also kids bullying one another (Anderson & Bushman, 2002). It is very unfortunate that at very tender age the children are learning to be aggressive since they spend most of the time watching televisions that impact some immoral behavior than the times they were spending with parents. Today many children practice bullying since they believe it is one way of defending themselves be admired and also gained respects from other fellows. These children don’t have to respect their parents and cannot be controlled at that age and hence becoming a threat to the society.
Moreover, the violence that is presented on the Televisions and video games teach the children a high sense of justification of the use of violence in diverse situations. The most exact lessons from the video are that violence is the correct way to solve some differences that might occur in the current society. However, the lesson is contrary and not acceptable within the real-life situations and also the moral standards. Therefore, the use of violence for a virtuous cause may turn into a validation into using to the score against the victims. On the other hand, a defenseless youth who have been bullied by others may be forced to apply an aggressive means or method to solve the situations. These have led to the emergence of various fights within the society and mostly among the youths. In most cases, situations that would be solved easily through negotiation ends up to a fight since the youths have learned that the only solution is to act aggressively.
Most of the scenes displayed through various media sects have a justification of the hero. Therefore, the hero in most of the hero in the scenes also teaches the youths and children that violence has no consequences because he or she never gets into trouble for their actions and operations. Most of the psychologist has agreed that experiences teaches an individual especially the children on their early life and have an effect on their lives. The action movies showing some kinds of fights have the hero who usually commits murder, and other despicable duties in the society end up without any trouble coming their way. The justification of the actions has passed a message to the children that immoral acts and actions don’t attract some consequences in the long run. This has made the youths to have characters that cannot be explained by the society and also the parents (Anderson et al., 2008).
A researcher known as George Gerbner established that the prime-time TV has a large number of violent contents. Most of the children’s shows and scenes have been found to contain more violent activities compared to the ones for the adults. The scenes that are meant and designed for children have about 36 violent acts for an hour. Moreover, the American psychology association reported that an average child would view more than 7500 murders and over 11000 acts of violence in the Television. About 60% of the televisions programs have some aspects of violence (Savage, 2004).
There is a relationship between media violence and violent behavior in the society that is exhibited through the youths and young children. Most of the children learn the violent behaviors on media which end up being part of their systems. Research has shown that most of the children in the society are raised by the media and not their parents. The parents only understand these through the violent behaviors they exhibit in the society. The children become disrespectful and always solve the situation with violence.
